Salt, Sodium & the Weeknight Table

The first Weekly Table: a source-led label-reading explainer, two original recipe drafts and one joined-up shopping list.

Salt is a measurement, not just a taste. A sauce can occupy very little of a plate and still matter to its sodium total. This week’s practical question is how to read the number on a packet without letting one number become the whole story of dinner.

WHO’s sodium fact sheet, dated 11 May 2026, recommends adults consume less than 2,000 mg sodium a day, equivalent to less than 5 g salt. It links excess sodium with raised blood pressure. This is established population guidance, not a promise that one meal will change your blood pressure or an individual prescription.

The complete edition pairs a label-reading method with lemon-and-thyme white beans with cabbage, apple-and-cinnamon oats, and one shopping list. Both recipes are original, untested drafts with estimated times and no verified nutrient calculation. The opening is free; the remaining edition uses the existing server-verified Odd Index membership. Email delivery has not been verified.
